UthiripookkalA Mahendran movie

It is a movie released in 1979 which was directed by Mahendran and music by Ilaiyaraaja. 1979 is one of the finest year where many good movies released in Tamil. Some were path breaking and the transition to the next decade in mainstream cinema was likely happening . Mahendran was with fresh with his success of Mullum Malarum and already was vijayan well known face with his roles enacted through these years. The story is setup in a village where school corespondent was rude/arrogant who wants everyone to be in a low profile and behave under his knees. Though he is married and have children, still he looks for a marriage with his wife’s sister. A health inspector and a new school teacher comes into the village. Naturally the main conflict turns to them. But he still proves him to be strong with the newbies. The movie doesn’t explore in the way Bharathiraja movie type, but takes the same route as Mullum Malarum does.

How does the villagers react to it ? Most of them have grudge, anger and irritation but not in a position to oppose due to power/money.They take a stand, in the climax after all the patience is lost due to the sequence of events. The punch delivered at the end of the movie is really a wise one. The antagonist(Vijayan) conveys to the people who were at his back ¨Till now you people all were good but now by making me to die myself, you have changed bad like me, that’s worries me a lot. That’s the ultimate punch of the movie. Though it is 4 decades old movie, it sets to current scenario. I am not talking much about editing, camera work or story. Though they were very and suited the movie. The screenplay and end of the movie had hit my heart strongly. The music by illaiyaraja kept quiet most of the times and gave a subtle effect when necessary. The few songs suited to the mood.

It is one real of the movie from Mahendran.

Vivek an Epic

It is very sad to hear about his demise, a good actor with a good sense of humour, public thought …
It’s a great loss to society too.
He used to plant the sapling to improve the environment, inturn helping the mankind and he spread rational thoughts by most of his comedy roles in movies.

I have tried to ecollect some of his good comedies scenes from few of his movies

The role in Karisakattupoove, Kadhal Sadugudu and Tirunelveli were one of the good pick to start where he propagates the rational thoughts. The kilometre stone as God comedy from Tirunelveli and Napoleon food sample comedy from Karisakattupoove are classic.

The movies like Minnale, Run had fun aspect in top notch. Ullukulla 750 spare parts irukku…athulla odatha vandiya da intha lemon vachathu kapuram da poguthu…

Intha aaraa mattum ramanathapuram pakkam thiruppi iruntha …muppokamum vilayumeda

In recent movie Dharalaprabhu his role as a character artist was delivered with elegance. You need special guts to pick such kind of roles, it’s melodramatic but we see a Vivek punch in it.

The role in Meesamurukku, as a straight forward and responsible father gave good elevation to movie’s success. His first scene along with Head mast explaining the importance of Tamil in Tamil Nadu in the Aadhi starter which was a tailor made role for the legend. Thottalum Jeyichalum,, meesayamurukku. He is one among very few comedians who can carry the character roles so easily.

Vellai Pookal movie to be watched for his matured role, the initial scenes where he proves his prowess as a caring father and loving husband who carries his wife’s photo along who is a retired detective and there come a chance back to revive his profession.

The role in Piriyamanaval is remarkable comedy ride,,, The Blue shirt comedy and Bluevungoo!!!!

In Partheipan Kanavu role as a careless Husband helping his friend …. Enna Maanga adikira maathiriyae paarkiriye and the scenes where he does mimicry as multiple political personalities …

His association with V Sekhar movies where he share screen space with multiple comedy actors without any ego that too when he was on his top of his career. Those were simpleton, yet effective which fit according to the requirement, that’s his speciality.

The Roles in T P Gajendran’s Budget Padmanaban and Middle class Madhavan were epic too.

His comedy sequences along with his favourite rival Vadivelu were Laugh riot. The sequences in Budget Padmanaban with Kerala Getup were enjoyable.

In Manathai Thirudivittai everyone remembers the classic Vadivelu comedies, that movie had separate track for Vivek too, which were enjoyable. The Bruce comedies…

The movies with Goundamani where Goundamani overshadow every others comedians yet Vivek delivered wonderful performances like in Periya idathu maapillai , Unakaga Ellam Unakaga which are unforgettable comedies..

His comeback role along with Ajith in Yennai Arinthal, the short comedy sequences and the brief questions of love and marriage like enakku pissasu naalum bayam, proves his evergreen comic sense.

The lawyer roles which he did along with Udhayanithi in Manithan and along with Karthi in Thozha though simple were good nice roles…

The role in Whistle proves him as an epic comedian, the sequences where he hears what women thinks is one of the best comic comedies…

Maamiyaar marumagal paththi ethana serial vanthaalum neengallaam thiruntha maatengala…

The Pennin Manthai Thottu role is one such super role that no one can forget as a medical college student … Sutti Suthi Vicks thaan eluthi kothirukken & Lord Labak Dass…. were like 👌

His association with Shankar movies like Shivaji , Anniyan and Boys had close roles to Heroes…

Kanchipuram Kanjira…

Innum ava vera ethulaam weak o!!

Enna gas trouble a???

He is one great actor who acted with all old legendary actors to the recent sensations like Dhanush or Harish Kalyan…

Thanga Puspam,,,Sir Neenga mind voice nenachi pesittu irukkeenga…

The role with Dhanush in Padikadhavan was classic comedy

Athu vazhi vera department…

Particularly can’t miss his role in Ullam Kollai Poaguthae which is a classic comedy about Thanniyla kandam with social messages and Sivagami computer which had much rational messages.

The similar roles as a city guy reaches the village and making fun of the system were enacted in movies like Poomagal Oorvalam , Unnai Thedi and Aasaiyil Or Kaditham

Unra ponnu kaluthula thaali kattuvangalada….

His other movies like Thirumalai, Singam1&2, Dhool, Dhill, Majnu, Dum Dum Dum, Kushi, Viswasam, Bigil, Thirumalai, Aathi, Kuruvi, Ye Nee Romba Alaga Irukke, Enakku 20 Unakku 18 have unforgettable Comedies…

Lastly can’t miss my favourite movie with Ajith in Kadhal Mannan as a meaningful friend, A broke up single and fun maker along with MSV which is gonna stay in hearts ever after…

Good bye Actor Vivek,

Tamil audiences are gonna miss him a lot, that space gonna be vacant for some years to come.

2001: Space Odyssey

‌One thing I wondered about 2001: Space Odyssey is its cinematography, it’s space sets and the way they narrated which were ahead of it times and you can’t imagine this movie released in 1968. The screenplay is very slow and the astonishing feel vanishes after a while you sense it. What survives our curiosity ? The feed what Stanley Kubrick’s direction gave our minds. The movie is based on the short story of Arthur C Clarke “The Sentinel”.

‌Many parts of sequences seems to silent without much dialogues, some places only with heavy music. The film describes about the evolution of being in different period of times. Millions of years ago apes sees a monolithic stone and gets its understanding that a bone as weapon , the movie scene cuts there and reopens on the satellite which in turn explains the future weapon.

The climax seems to be puzzled the first time you watch. But evolution is a process of mankind had been explained in the end, the scientists becomes foetus and travels in transparent orbit of light and the movie ends there. There are sequences when the HAL computer becomes problematic and explains about it’s twin computer failure and the scenes around it were well narrated.

Year : 1995

Y1995 was a wonderful year for Tamil Industry when many blockbuster movies released. Baasha, Bombay, Kuruthipunal, Aasai, Sathyleelavathi, Murai Maman,Muthu, Karna released the same year.

Amidst Big Names like Muthu and Kuruthipunal of Diwali Releases Daring Director RK Selvamani released his Movie Makkal Aatchi.

It was close to an end of Tenure for the current ruling party and they were counting their months after they displayed their multiple Political disasters in Tamilnadu state and the total swap of government in Y1996 with major stunts.

This movie was one of the front runner for many Tamil movies to show their Hero as Chief Minister afterwards like Puthumai Pithan, Mudhalvan and Rest of All..

The movie starts and ends with more dramatical sequence, how a jail returned road side man without any political background become a CM of the state. Those parts of the movie are shear drama. But the in between episodes are real juice from all the mix and grind of those days political stunts. Even the character names used in the Movie were touching the open politics. There were many places the director displays 1000s of side actors as a mass who attends the political meetings and come all through the movie. This usually visible only in RK Selvamani movies those days. It was well appreciated by critics and even surprised them. Liaquat Ali Khan razor sharp dialogues fine tuned our thoughts. Even though, two of the Tamil matinee icon had their major releases, Mammootty came with his memorable acting and made the movie a classic hit.

P Kalaimani the master story writer of Tamil Industry those days have major stars in his career crown. This movie added him one more credit.

We are unable to find an unedited original version of this movie in any online platform. But the people who watched the original in Theatres cannot forget it.

Movie have it own issues with loopholes considering the the year of release, Yet a classic packed movie.

One of the memorable scene in the movie is where a party devotee runs into the opposite party political meeting’s stage and set fire on himself for cursing his leader. The camera work in that scene is a wonderful masterpiece and multiple TV channels had used that in their montage videos.

Additional Info : R K Selvamani’s other classics are Pulan Visaranai, Captain Prabakaran, Makkal Aatchi and Kuttra Pattrikai
